In industrial terms, this generally means, ventilating for effective plant or process operation, or operator comfort. This is usually for heat relief, which involves the installation of roof or wall mounted fans to exhaust the heat at a similar rate to which it is created, thus overcoming heat gains and preventing heat build up and over-heating. This is sometimes called dilution ventilation and can be used in zoned areas, where the evaporation level can be established, and ventilation can be introduced to keep the environment below the flash point. Heat stress is an issue during the warmer months, where roof or wall mounted extraction fans are used to exhaust excess heat before it reaches the occupation zone. As an alternative, or in addition to, evaporative cooling or spot cooling can be employed, using chilled air to generally reduce the temperatures within a facility, or to provide cooling relief at specific points.
