A surge vessel protects pumping mains from high and low pressures, to ensure the pressures in the pipe remain within the pipe pressure envelope during both pump start/stop, and most importantly,
an uncontrolled stop; although high pressures can cause burst pipes etc, negative pressures are just as serious!
Surge vessels can be installed on all types of pumping mains including potable, grey or washwater as well as sewage.
Each vessel is specifically detailed to conform to the criteria detailed in the hydraulic study, or to match the existing vessel if upgrading a system.
Design codes include PD5500 Cat 1, 11 & 111, ASME U Stamp CE marked (where applicable) and PED compliant. Third party approval of design calculations and witness hydrotest.
Types of control include 4point, 5 point and “constant mass” provided by the patented QUBE controller offered by QED.
Materials are generally either mild steel or 316 stainless steel. QED offer stainless vessels with DWI approvals for both the material and manufacturer. Up to about 2m³ a stainless steel vessel can offer delivery advantages due to not requiring coating. The extra cost manufacturing out of stainless is generally offset by the removal of a manway and the need for coating.
Coatings include DWI approved solvent free internal system applied hot in one coat, with a two pack epoxy external system to the BS4800 colour of your choice. Stainless steel vessels are supplied self colour.
