When should I change my Caravan tyres.

We at Hometyre take our recommendations from the Caravan club website. In general they recommend that Caravan and Motorhome tyres are changed every 5 to 7 years regardless of tread depth remaining, if they are used at pressures of below 50 psi. If you inflate them to more than 50 psi, then they recommend that you change them every 3 to 5 years.
However you should inspect you tyres on a regular basis ( especially before a long trip) and if you see any signs of cracking or bulges, then change the tyres immediately.
When it comes to the spare tyre, this can actually be more dangerous than the tyres in use. This is because by not being used the rubber becomes more brittle and hardens over time. I would only ever recommend using a spare tyre as a get you home or to a place of safety tyre.
The photo shows a tyre I removed from a caravan in June this year, it is 29 years old, and had cracks all over the sidewalls. The customer was new to caravan nine and had just bought the caravan from a little old man who had had it from new. I recommended that he had it properly serviced, as if the tyres had not been changed in that length of time, then maybe the gas, electrics, water and brakes were due a check.
