When should I change Caravan tyres

Both Caravans and Motorhomes on average cover very little mileage per year. So changing the tyres becomes more of a change due to age rather than worn tread.
We at Hometyre follow the recommendations as shown on the Caravan club website. They state.........
Any Leisure vehicle where the tyre pressure is below 50 Psi, should change tyres every 5 to 7 years regardless of the tread depth remaining.
Any leisure vehicle where the tyre pressure is over 50 Psi, should change tyres every 3 to 5 years regardless of tread depth remaining.
Additionally you should still check your tyres regularly and look for cracking on the sidewall, and even between the tread blocks. If cracks are seen then we would recommend changing the tyres asap. The photo shows a caravan tyre with a crack all around the sidewall that the owner had not noticed.
To keep your tyres in good condition there are a number of things you can do:
Rotate the tyres regularly, even if you only move them a foot or so, it will stop flats developing.
Check the tyre pressures and keep them correctly inflated.
Keep the tyres covered to keep the sun off them.
If possible remove the tyres and store them on a dark place if not using the vehicle for a length of time. We at Hometyre have a secure storage stand just for this.
