A new regulation regarding tyre labels came into force in July of this year. All new tyres produced must have a label that gives a customer an easy to read description of how good (or bad) the tyres are that they are about to buy.
The tyres are rated in 3 areas:
Wet Braking with ranges from A to G. ('A' being the best) a Car fitted with 'A' rated tyres can effectively stop up to 18 metres shorter, that a 'G' rated car at 50MPH.
Fuel Economy with ranges from A to G ('A being the best). A car fitted with 'a' rated tyres can save upto 7.5% compared to a car fitted with 'G' rated tyres.
External Noise level, this is shown as 3 bars. 1 bar is the lowest, 2 bars meets future legislation, and 3 bars reaches legislation now, but will fail later.
From November 1st 2012, any sales person selling a tyre, must give the tyre label information to a customer.
