Uterine artery embolisation (UAE) or uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE) is a minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids, one of the commonest benign tumours of the uterus. Fibroids can lead to heavy periods, pressure symptoms, pain and fertility problems. For many women with fibroids a minimally invasive embolization treatment is an alternative to myomectomy or hysterectomy surgery.

Dr. Paul Crowe is a consultant interventional radiologist and has over ten years experience of fibroid embolization, having performed over 1500 cases. He offers the treatment at the BMI Priory Hospital in Birmingham and at the Princess Grace Hospital on London. It is usual to arrange an MRI scan in the first instance to determine suitability for embolisation and this can be arranged to co-incide with an initial out-patient consultation visit. For patients not already under the care of a gynaecologist the Birmingham Fibroid Clinic can offer joint consultations with Dr. Crowe and his Consultant Gynaecologist colleague, Miss Shirin Irani, to give impartial advice on the full range of minimally invasive fibroid treatments available.
