Field & Lawn Scotland have just completed a structure with a difference. National Museums Scotland approached our team for a solution to a unique challenge they had. The current aircraft hangers at East Fortune's National Museum of Flight were needing urgent refurbishment meaning a storage requirement for the planes currently within them. The challenge was however that they wanted a structure 20m x 65m, but due to the historic nature of the site there was to be the minimum of ground disturbance. To add to this the ground conditions meant that anchor pins were not an option. The solution was to engineer concrete ballast blocks that the structure could then be chemically bolted to. This means that after the 18 month hire the structure and blocks can be removed with the minimum of disturbance to the site. The weather did its best to slow progress down but our team got there in time for the planes to be tucked safely away.
