Indian Wildife Tours offer a variety of personally led wildlife and cultural tours to Northern and Central India, which can be tailor made to suit the individual.

One of the tours includes a tiger safari to Corbett National Park. This reserve provides excellent bird watching opportunities as well as unsurpassed views of wildlife as a whole, particularly of wild elephant and tiger.

Corbett National Park was named after the hunter, turned conservationist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment. It is proud to be the oldest and one of the most popular national parks in India. It is situated in the Nainital District of Uttaranchal. This park acts as a protected area for the critically endangered Royal Bengal Tiger. This being the prime objective of Project Tiger, an Indian Wildlife initiative.

The park was first established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. Jim Corbett National Park was renamed in 1954-55 as 'Ramganga National Park' and again in 1955-56 as 'Jim Corbett National Park' after the famous Jim Corbett who hunted down tigers and leopards that had turned man-eaters, between 1907 to 1939. Corbett National Park was the first National Park to be created and is therefore the oldest. Corbett National Park India was one of the nine Tiger Reserves created at the launch of the Project Tiger in 1973.

Corbett National Park is found at the foothills of the Himalalys and as a result has an extremely rich flora and fauna. It has numerous ravines, ridges, streams and small plateaux. This encompasses the Palti Dun Valley, which was formed by the Ramganga River, which flows through the reserve. Bird watching is excellent.

Corbett Park is very famous for its wild population of Tigers, Leopards and Elephants. Though it is a real haven for Tigers, it is also provides perfect habitat for its prey, which include four kinds of Deer, Wild Boar and some lesser-known animals. Leopards are mostly found in the hilly areas of the Corbett Reserve. Some nocturnal cats are found here like the Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat and Fishing Cat. The Sloth Bear is found in the lower regions of the park while the Himalayan Black Bear is occasionally seen in the higher hilly areas only. The Dhole or Wild Dog, can be seen in the southern areas of the park along with the Jackal. Some of the smaller residents of the park are Himalayan Palm Civet, Indian Grey Mongoose, Common Otter, Black-naped Hare and Porcupine. Elephants are among one of the main attractions of the Park.

Corbett National Park is also famous for the wonderful elephant safaris, that go deep into the grasslands and jungles searching for tigers or wild elephants and these provide excellent photographic opportunities, particularly of the wild elephants bathing and playing in the rivers. The photographic opportunities for birds, not just for bird watching is fantastic!

Along the Ramganga River shores itself, one can spot the fish-eating Gharial Crocodile and the 'Mugger' Crocodile. Also seen on the rocky hillsides are the Ghoral or Goat Antelopes. The Langur and Rhesus Monkeys are well distributed throughout the reserve and will warn the whole jungle with alarm calls when danger is near.
Due to its prime position, its habitat diversity and its protected status, bird watching is superb! Corbett can boast to have over 600 species of bird, including the very rare Ibisbill, over 50 mammals and 33 species of reptile. It contains 488 different species of plants and there are over 110 species of tree. Corbett is known for its varied vegetation that ranges from dense mixed Sal and Sheesham forests interwoven with bamboo thickets.
