There are many illnesses that exist besides the common cold. We have found that some of these illnesses that enter our bodies are attacked by our immune system and defeated. Unfortunately, our bodies have yet become strong enough to ward off diseases such as HIV and cancers. Scientists are on the verge of discovering the secret weapon to that. As of now, many childhood diseases are being fought away before they are even started, through a process called vaccination.
What are Vaccines?
A common vaccine you may be familiar with is the flu vaccine. You hear frequently to come get your flu vaccine. However, you aren’t quite sure what one is. A vaccine is a weakened form of a disease causing bacteria or virus. This is why people are so skeptical about taking a flu vaccine. They feel they are going to get sick, so why the need for the vaccination. This should be looked at totally different though. If a weakened form of the disease is placed into your body and can get you sick, imagine what a full-blown portion of the disease can do to you if you contract it.
What is Vaccination?
Human vaccinations are much in the same sense as a dogs vaccination if you are familiar with the process. If you’re wondering what are vaccinations going to be like in the next 10 years, the answer is probably the same. They have been this way for years. An actual vaccination process is having the vaccine injected into our bodies and our immune system sends out the antibodies to attack it. The next time the bacteria or virus is caught in our systems, the antibodies are present and ready for the good fight.
Why are Vaccinations For Travel Necessary?
If you frequently travel out of your country, you may be recommended to have travel vaccinations. Sometimes you are not allowed out of your country and into another without them. Some illnesses can be considered foreign to another country. This doesn’t mean the disease does not exist there, just not as heavily populated in the other country. If you travel to a country that has a high level of an illness that is not present in your own country, you are more susceptible to pick it up and be a carrier, bringing it back home.
Various Types of Vaccinations
There are many vaccines that are not only recommended but also required of some children entering school in the United States. They have a vaccination record to be completed by a doctor. A few types of vaccinations include:
Human papillomavirus (HPV)
Influenza - injection or nasal spray
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (often combined and called the MMR Vaccinations)
Note how the MMR vaccine is a combined vaccine. It’s important to get those in childhood years.
Are There Any Options To a High Cost Vaccination?
Yes. There are low cost vaccination alternatives available. You can go to a public health institution for free or low cost options. It’s a good place to also learn about vaccination and the process.
