Suffolk and Norfolk’s senior management are confident that George Osborne’s “unavoidable increase in VAT” will create a mini BOOM in Industrial and Commercial refurbishment and renovation prior to the 2.5% increase being introduced.
S & N’s thoughts on the effects of the UK’s economic downturn have been no secret, senior management have been convinced since late 2008 that refurbishment and renovation will continue to be the leading sectors as far as Industrial and Commercial development are concerned.
Suffolk and Norfolk’s Marketing Manager, Peter Masters said, “With so many unfinished projects dotting the UK landscape and the sad abundance of empty property in need of transformation in many town centres across the UK, new build projects and their inherent costs are no longer a serious consideration. The UK is firmly in a continuing era of financial constraint and as a result, we fully expect to see a prolonged era of regeneration and in many ways, this can only be a positive situation.”
“One prime example of the demand for this new direction and the problem of needing cost effective additional accommodation is the continuing success of our “Reborn Barn” system; demand for this system has proved that we were extremely accurate with our thinking right back in 2008. One of the main reasons we launched “Reborn Barn” was our anticipation of a significant demand for refurbishment in the Industrial, Commercial and Agricultural sectors. People just can’t afford to start from scratch during financially restrictive times; any construction professional will agree that just the initial set up costs and planning can add a significant percentage to the bottom line of any sizeable project. Our approach is ‘Why bother building new, when there are so many refurbishment opportunities out there?’ In this eco-friendly "Green Age" that we are encouraged to embrace, we are supposed to be pro recycling, therefore, it makes good sense to us to promote regeneration.”
Despite tough times ahead, Suffolk and Norfolk Cladding remain optimistic!
“Suffolk and Norfolk’s ability to recreate a complete new look, a reinvention of overall appearance to major developments is being welcomed with open arms by major contractors and developers. The fact that our detailed work on the Salthouse Harbour Hotel helped the project win the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors “Project of the Year” 2010 certainly proves the point. This will no doubt encourage other major contractors and developers to turn to us for professional assistance when it comes to cutting edge, cost effective design.”
The major luxury hotel development was spearheaded by renowned main contractor ISG Jackson and designed by Ipswich based Architect Barefoot and Gilles. The six storey concrete frame extension provides a new reception area, new dining facilities and an additional 27 luxury bedrooms to the hotel. The extension boasts outstanding views across the Marina and has a stunning modern facade installed by Suffolk & Norfolk Cladding.
Suffolk and Norfolk’s Peter Masters added, “We do anticipated an upturn between now and January 2011, fortunately, we have been prepared for an increase in refurbishment projects for some time now. The additional VAT increase could easily add between £50,000 and £100,000 to any reasonable sized project, and nowadays, £100,000 can make all the difference between a "not so" successful project and a successful project. The whole Industrial and Commercial development dynamic has changed and luckily, due to our experience, our abilities and the phenomenal success of projects like the Salt House Harbour Hotel we are reaping the benefits.”
