She has worked for Shell International as a freelance translator for nearly 20 years and currently also works in-house as a translation project manager there as and when required, providing holiday cover in the department. After her postgraduate technical and specialised translation course, Sues translation career started at Leatherhead Food Research Association where she spent 18 months in the Legislation Department translating food regulations from around the world. She then spent 2 years as an in-house translator in the Language Services Department of what was known at the time as the bellwether of British industry: ICI PLC at its Millbank headquarters in London. Her freelance career has included two years acting as External Examiner/Moderator for French and Spanish on the University of Westminsters MA in Technical and Specialised Translation and MA in Bilingual Translation. Her career prior to translation was as a bilingual secretary (French/English) for the Lyce Franais in London, the European Commission Information Office in London and a firm of solicitors, Lee, Bolton and Lee, in Westminster. Charging structure: Translation is charged on a per 1,000 word basis of either source or target text, to be negotiated dependent on the original text format. Rates vary according to the level of technical or specialist difficulty of the text. An urgency surcharge may be applied for very urgent translation requirements. A minimum charge is applied. An hourly rate charge basis is applied for particularly intricate text layout or where amendments are required to subsequent versions of documents.
