CD Tiling has successfully completed tiling in a 25m swimming pool, a teaching pool and surrounding areas, all part of the new Lifestyle Centre in Winsford, using Ultra Tile adhesives and grouts.
Following the completion of a successful building project to replace the Winsford Sports Complex, the new £10.8m Winsford Lifestyle Centre recently opened to the public. CD Tiling were commissioned to complete tiling installations of the centre’s 25m swimming pool, teaching pool, showers, changing rooms, toilets, reception area and cafe. They chose to complete this vast project using Ultra Tile’s adhesives and grouts.
Darren Ventham, director of CD Tiling, has experienced the exceptional service and high product performance that the Ultra Tile brand can offer many times before so he had no doubt that Ultra Tile adhesives and grouts would be his chosen materials. Following technical assistance received from Ultra Tile, Darren was able to quote and specify efficiently, winning the contract over many other tiling contractors.
This tiling installation project was over 2000m² in total size and therefore it is not surprising that CD Tiling needed solutions for many different applications including large areas, heavily trafficked areas and possibly the most important application, wet conditions. A variety of tile types were fixed throughout the project including porcelain floor tiles, glazed ceramic wall tiles and glass mosaics. Ultra Tile ProFlex SP, Ultra Tile ProFlex SP+ES and Ultra Tile ProRapid RS adhesives were all used on this project and their individual features were matched to the application before work commenced.
Ultra Tile ProFlex SP is a single part cementitious wall and floor tile adhesive. This product is ideally suited to swimming pool tiling applications because it is formulated to combine flexural capacity with excellent bond strength and for use with low porosity substrates such as fully vitrified tiles. Additionally ProFlex SP is polymer modified and rapid setting.
An extended set adhesive is always required for large format or intricate tiling work. Ultra Tile ProFlex SP+ES has a working time of 1 hour (depending upon temperature and substrate) making it an ideal choice for such applications. ProFlex SP+ES is suitable for tile work using porcelain, ceramic and natural stone tiles, and for situations where vibration may occur.
Ultra Tile ProRapid RS is specifically formulated for heavily trafficked areas where dense tiles are often laid. Exceptional bond strength and rapid set qualities are therefore essential in anadhesive, and are those of ProRapid RS, when completing this type of tiling application.
All of the tiling applications carried out by CD Tiling in the Winsford Lifestyle Centre were finished with a touch of designer sparkle using Ultra Tile’s coloured grouts. The Ultra Tile grout range consists of three products individually formulated for specific applications and all are available in a variety of colours and are suitable for walls or floors.
Ultra Tile Fine Joint and Ultra Tile Wide Joint Grouts can be applied internally and externally in both wet and dry conditions, and are suitable for use on swimming pool constructions. Ultra Tile Fine Joint Grout is specifically formulated for joint widths of up to 12mm. Whereas Ultra Tile Wide Joint Grout is suitable for grouting joints up to 20mm. Both products allow for grouting to take place in one application and are suitable for use with most common tiles including natural stone, porcelain, conglomerate and ceramic wall and floor tiles.
Ultra Tile Flex Joint Grout is also a product suitable for grouting joints up to 20mm in one application. But is also formulated with added polymer to increase flexibility and to provide a virtually impermeable set, therefore making it suitable for areas where movement or vibration are likely.
All three Ultra Tile grouts are CG2 classified and contain an anti-fungal additive, which prevents the build up of mould once applied.
To complete this project CD Tiling had to overcome new screeds, uneven subfloors and also had to enhance falls in the shower areas. Ultra Tile’s technical assistance helped with the solutions to these conditions. Primers and levellers from Ultra Tile’s sister brand, Ultra Floor, were recommended to, and used by CD Tiling before tiling commenced.
