The Langer Group have now developed a range of A.F.O.’s (Ankle Foot Orthoses) which are of the highest quality and simple to order.
• As standard Ankle Foot Orthose are manufactured from Co-Polymer
Polypropylene. Alternative materials, such as polyethylene, are
available upon request.
• A large range of colours and transfers are available.
• Through-loop Velcro fastenings, backed in PVA, are used to limit twisting and to aid cleaning.
A.F.O.’s work by substituting weak dorsiflexors
during the swing phase for the gait cycle and weakplanter flexors during
the stance phase.
The A.F.O.’s rigid wall transfers the ground reaction force (GRF)
into an anterior force. This anterior force prevents or controls tibial
advancement during the stance phase of the gait cycle and counteracts
the GRF tendency to dorsiflex the ankle. An A.F.O.’s ability to redirect
the ground reaction force depends upon its rigidity; an A.F.O. that is
flexible or articulated does not serve this purpose.
