Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body.  It focuses on the musculo-skeletal system: the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues and the way this fits in with the general function of the body as a whole.  Osteopaths combine orthodox knowledge of orthodox medical sciences with specialised methods of evaluation and treatment.  After treatment an osteopath may advise on various health issues and ways to achieve a realistic level of health through exercise, ergonomics and lifestyle advice.

Penarth Osteopathic Practice is an independant family practice run by Jonathan Slack Bsc (Hons) Ost and Philippa Slack Bsc (Hons) Ost, Bsc Hons who both qualified in 1997 from the British School of Osteopathy.   The practice has more than 12,000 registered patients and two surgeries, one at 66 Westbourne Road in Penarth and the other at the Spire Hospital in Pentwyn, Cardiff (formerly BUPA).  Penarth Osteopathic Practice was first established in 1927 and taken over from Christopher Hancock in 2001. In April 2008 Jonathan also began working as a member of the team at Vale Healthcare Ltd in Cardiff bay.
