Mirth Control is the largest independent comedy booker in the UK, currently booking comedy shows into more than 90 venues nationwide and overseas.
Using our database of over 1,000 stand-up comedians we will offer not one or two, but a whole range of acts that are ideally suited to your event or evening, providing background information on each act, from this shortlist you can make your final selection.
We offer advice on which acts will provide the best show at the most competitive price, by putting our comprehensive knowledge of the comedy industry at your disposal.
We endeavour to make the perfect line-up for every night of comedy by making sure that the line-ups offer diversity, originality and big laughs. To make every night a success we use our database of comedians (from all corners of the globe) to maintain quality and to ensure that different comedians are on the line-ups every season, keeping things fresh and exciting.
Corporate work is an area in which we are rapidly expanding and can now source virtually any comedy act currently appearing on national TV and Radio, subject to availability and budgets.
Due to the way Mirth Control is structured we probably have the best record of any independent club bookers in terms of developing and breaking new talent. This is because of both the volume and the wide diversity in style of our venues, allowing us to mix new with experienced acts to blend the best possible line-ups for stand-up comedy shows. We fill a very fertile middle ground between The Comedy Store at one end of the spectrum and 'try out' nights in pubs at the other.
Founder of Mirth Control, Geoff Whiting has been performing stand-up for 11 years performing around the UK comedy circuit 300 nights per year, notching up his 3500th stand-up gig recently. This constant gigging gives him an up to the minute knowledge at grass roots level of who is out there and importantly who is creating big audience reaction with their innovative work.
In terms of tracking new talent early, Geoff has an excellent record to date. He gave Stuart Silver (latterly of Perrier Award winning double act Noble and Silver) his first (and only) ever solo stand-up spot, also booking Jimmy Carr (Perrier Award nominee 2002) for his first ever paid gig at our club in Plymouth. Other acts who have taken their first steps in Mirth Control venues include Stephen Merchant, Mackenzie Crook, Alan Carr, Justin Lee Collins and Matthew Horne (from the Katherine Tate Show and Gavin and Stacey).
In short, we have our ear to the ground at all times. If someone is creating a buzz on the comedy circuit, you can be sure we already know about it and have contacts with that artist. Just think if we knew about those guys before they broke, we have a pretty good idea who will be big in a few years time. There is a lot of untapped talent out there.
