Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that this year will be just what you would wish yourself. So far it has been rather busy with enquiries. Surprisingly not about divorce (despite what the papers say) but more so about contact issues and financial matters. Contact issues seem to be the lead topic with three enquiries in one week about how to sort out contact and options available. I know I have touched on this topic previously with my blog on Tinsel, Turkey and Christmas Contact and I still promote the resolution of the matter out of court rather than the expensive and lengthy procedure invovled. Don't get me wrong there are some cases where contact proceedings are inevitable and I had to tell a gentleman last week that his only option was through the court given his former partner's complete lack of co-operation with correspondence and mediation. You just need to appreciate that there is never any guarantee that you will achieve what you want with the court process. Of the three enquiries I am writing to two previous partners with proposals and the third is considering my advice regarding court proceedings. I have also been asked to prepare two court orders this week to resolve financial matters following agreement between the parties. One gentleman divorced some time ago but is due to remarry soon and wanted to have all financial matters resolved from his previous marriage. Fortunately his ex wife is in full agreement so a clean break order dismissing all claims arising from their marriage is being sent to her for signature this week. A reminder to everyone that your claims against each other do not cease just because you have a decree absolute! Speak to me about it if you have any doubts. Well I had better get back to it but if you have any queries about family law issues please don't hesitate to call. My resolution by the way, is to try and keep this blog up to date! We'll see.
