Sustainable Indian rosewood knitting needles and double pointed needles / DPNs are now available from online retailer The Little Knitting Company (TLKC).
Rosewood[Dalbergia latifolia] is an important species in India and its sale is strictly regulated by the Government. The wood for the beautiful knitting and double pointed needles comes from coffee estates and government forest reserves; where trees have died and are removed before replanting takes place. These knitting needles are a joy to use, light and flexible (in the smaller sizes) with a sharp tip. They have been lovingly polished to enhance the natural wood grain and have a polyurethane top coat for a smooth finish.
These needles are all hand-made by a small co-operative from sustainable Indian Rosewood and as such there will be slight variations which should be considered a characteristic rather than a flaw of the product. They are also hand-stamped with metric and USA equivalent sizes.
Straight rosewood knitting needles are available in 25½cm(10 inch) and 35½cm(14 inch) from 2.75mm (US2) to 12mm (US17). Now also stocking 7mm.
Sets of 5 rosewood double pointed needles (DPNs) are available in 12¾cm(5 inch) from 2.75mm (US2) to 5mm (US8) and 17¾cm(7 inch) from 3.25mm (US3) to 10mm (US15).
Full sets are now also available in 10 inchor 14 inchstraight knitting needles, 7 inch or 5 inch DPNs.
