This will be our seventh Open Day and Knit In at our lovely local village pub. There will be plenty of wool, yarn, kits, knitting needles and knitting paraphernalia for you to look at and buy as well as some mini knitting surgeries and workshops throughout the day. There will also be the opportunity to try spinning, braiding and weaving. The very lovely Sarah and Jonathan will be demonstrating the gorgeous Soak® and Flatter™ too. A great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. Why not bring along a current knitting or crochet project or a WIP (work in progress) that you need some help with? You can pre-order and collect on the day if you would like. We invite everyone that comes along to make a small donation for skein winding, tea, cofffee and cakes too, to go to our chosen causes, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Our son was born in July 2009 with a condition known as Transposition of the Great Arterties (a "simple" TGA) diagnosed when he was 30 hours old. A "ballon septostomy" was perfomed when he was 35 hours old at the John Radcliffe, Oxford. At two weeks he had heart surgery at Great Ormond Street where they carried out an "arterial switch". As his parents, we were able to stay opposite the hospital the night before and then just around the corner for the nights that he was in CICU (cardiac intensive care unit) - this did not cost us a penny and we were able to visit our son day and night - a three minute walk away. Without fundraising, these facilities would not be available to parents who need to be near their children. He was fully recovered at three weeks and is now just like any other healthy, boisterous almost six year old! The Horse and Jockey has a large car park with good access in to the building. If you like, you can pre-book a table for lunch by calling them directly on 01367 710302. The Horse and Jockey is in the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Good Pub Guide. Well done Charles, Anna, Georgy and the rest of the team. Huge thanks, as ever, for allowing us to invade. Stanford in the Vale is located between Oxford and Swindon on the A420 with easy access from the M4, A34 and M40. Oxford is only 25 minutes away by car and there are plenty of other local attractions for a non-knitting partner or if you wanted to make a weekend visit. Nearby attractions include the Uffington White Horse, the Ridgeway, Great Coxwell Tithe Barn, Buscot Park, Kelmscott Manor and the village of Bampton (where some of the filming for Downton Abbey takes place). Questions? Please use the Contact Us form. We look forward to seeing you. Don't forget to bring your knitting!
