Robert Maddison began painting watercolours that were often the size of traditional easel paintings and beyond, with the degree of detail and development pushed to extremes. Because of this and the and the depth of colour and range of tone, Robert Maddison's paintings give the impression of being painted in a more substantial medium. Robert Maddison's subject matter is usually still life or floral.within Robert Maddisons' artistic career he has also written and illustrated a booklet about the Northern Pennines. Maddison has a studio in the small Pennine village of Allenheads from which he produces and exhibits his paintings and photographs. Robert Maddison has work in many collections throughout the world. In 1987 he was commissioned to paint two paintings for HRH Prince Charles. Maddison is a member of MENSA and the UK coloured pencil society, and is mentioned in "Who's Who In Art" The Allenheads studio is open daily.
