This is a lovely vintage Matisse Renoir 'Leaf' demi parue consisting of a matching brooch and earrings set.
The brooch and earrings are made from copper which has then been enameled in a rich gold colour which shades to black around one side of the maple shaped leaf. The depth of colour and the enamelling are a good example of the naturalistic style which Matisse jewellery was famous for. The maple leaf design is enhanced on each piece by a copper swirl and copper studs. The back of the brooch is signed with the Matisse Renoir block signiture behind the back pin and both of the earrings are signed on the metal clasps with the geometric script. The choice of typestyle was a matter of convinience and not a dating issue. The presence of both names indicates that it was made for both the Matisse and Renoir divisions of the company and can be dated to at least 1954, as all pieces have the © mark after this date. The clasp also has a security roll over to ensure safty whilst wearing such a lovely piece.
Good vintage condition.
