For pupils in schools, lessons on piano and drum kit depend on these instruments being available to use.
You can choose to learn in a group or individually. Many beginners start in a small group and then move to individual lessons as their skills develop. All of our tutors are experienced, professional musicians in their own right, as well as being experienced teachers. Students may have the chance to take examinations through the Associated Board, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Rock School for an additional charge.
Learning an instrument can be a series of high and low points; getting a new instrument, mastering a new piece, giving an exciting concert, or not being able to get something right, having to learn an exam piece that you don’t particularly like. It can be tempting to give up if you are going through a low point. Parents and carers, friends and family, can really help by encouraging students through these patches until they experience another high point and decide to continue.
For musicians of any age who are just starting out, we provide workshops and holiday courses – so you can make new friends and improve your playing at the same time. You can also join a group at York Music Forum.
