This event is specially organised by Dr. Christine Cornea – senior lecturer in film & TV studies at the UEA to give us a one-off privileged look at the history of women in British film & television on both sides of the screen. Taking place at the Thomas Paine study centre, UEA campus, on 6th September from 7- 9pm, the evening is organised into two sections with a break midway. Firstly we will focus on women working in British cinema followed by women in British TV, both in front and behind the cameras. The illustrated presentations will be historical and will look at the advent of central female “authority figures” in the 1970’s to the early 1980’s British television drama, with series like “The Duchess of Duke Street”, “Edward and Mrs. Simpson”, “The Gentle Touch”, “Survivors”. Both of these short presentations will be illustrated with film/television clips, pictures, etc. and will be entertaining as well as informative. Tickets are only £4 from Norfolk Federation office, 45 All Saints Green, Norwich, or Tel. 01603 624580. The evening is open to the general public as well as WI members, husbands, friends, guests. Tea/coffee will be available for a minimal charge during the evening.
