Sunday Yoga Workshop with Anya happened on 23rd June at 10.30am-1.30pm at the Norwich Buddhist Centre, 14 Bank Street, NR2 4SE in Norwich
In backbends we stretch the spine, front of the abdomen, hips, shoulders and chest.
Backbends have an Invigorating effect on the body .They energize the body, help to open the chest and the heart area, encourage inhalation.
Backbends can move blocked energy through all the chakras. When you feel sluggish, they can shift this energy and clear the mind.
Backbends are recommended for depression.
Some of the backbends:
Salabhasana (Locust Pose) – strengthens the upper and lower back, arms and legs; stretches the chest, shoulders and abdominals.
Salamba Bhujangasana (Sphinx Pose)-stretches and lengthens the spine; stretches the chest, lungs, shoulders and abdomen.
Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)- strengthens back muscles and arms; increases flexibility of spine; stretches chest, shoulders, lungs and abdomen; massages internal organs.
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Facing Dog Pose)- stretches shoulders and chest; strengthens the muscles controlling shoulder blades and core muscles.
Setu Bhandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose)-stretches chest, neck, spine, hips; strengthens back; massages abdominal organs; stimulates the lungs.
