It’s that time of the year when you can turn over a new leaf and make some positive changes in your life! Billions of people across the world will have made New Year’s resolutions for the year ahead. Whether it is to smile more, lose weight or spend more time with family, setting a goal towards something fulfilling can be the most rewarding feeling. However, research shows that one in four of us will have broken a New Year’s resolution by next weekend, and by the end of January, almost half will have cracked. So how can you keep your resolutions for 2015? Make sure that your resolutions are achievable and break your goals into a series of steps. Focus on creating sub-goals that are concrete, measurable and time-based, as this will help you keep track of how well you are doing. Reward yourself when you achieve a goal, or for every month that you succeed in continuing your resolution. You are the only one who can keep yourself motivated! Don’t let the slip ups push you off track, you’re only human. If you have set yourself a punishing task (e.g. eating healthily whilst surrounded by leftover Christmas chocolates) and accidentally break, keep on going! Don’t let one break ruin your chance to fulfil your goal. You control your surroundings, so make it easier for yourself. Don’t go to lots of parties if you have given up alcohol, and definitely remove all leftover Christmas chocolate from the house before you vow to start eating healthily! Don’t let the quitters get you down. Google search terms show that people are mostly interested in New Year’s resolution around December and January, so stick to yours even when everyone has stopped talking about theirs.
