The 2007 Syrah begins with luscious aromas of blueberry,
cherry, and toasted oak with accents of mint. The palate is deep and velvety,
unfolding with chewy flavors of blackberry, cinnamon and dark chocolate. Supple
tannins glide into a long, juicy finish. The 2007 Syrah offers rich, chewy
flavors of blueberry and blackberry with accents of dark chocolate and
cinnamon. Recommended pairings include sage-rubbed lamb chops, blue cheese
hamburgers, and hearty red pastas.
Our 2007 Syrah comes from the Syrah
vineyard blocks at our estate Margarita Vineyard. This is the southernmost of
the Syrah vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation, and one of just a handful
of Paso Robles vineyards within 15 miles of the ocean.

California Syrah is a relative
newcomer compared to Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Syrah is a Rhône
varietal that that hails from France. It also popular in Australia, where it
called Shiraz and where it is often blended to make Cabernet Shiraz and even
Syrah Merlot. Red wine Syrah is truly an international wine. Syrah wines
started gaining momentum in California in the mid 1990s, and have proven to be
a perfect fit for Paso Robles. Syrah in California is now the state’s fifth
most planted red varietal.
Our Syrah vineyard blocks are
planted to numerous clones, including Napa Syrah clones selected by the Mondavi
wine family. Our Syrah and other wine grapes are sustainably farmed to nurture
their natural flavors. Of course, our Syrah is different than Napa Syrah due to
the unique terroir of our vineyard. The wines of Margarita Vineyard are shaped
by the land’s fossilized soils and ocean proximity.
We invite you to visit our tasting
room in Santa Margarita, where you can taste our Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as our White Label reserve wines that are
ideal for aging in the wine cellar. We are always happy to tell you about the
latest California wine fair or give you a California wine guide or wine country
map to assist with your touring. We also offer direct wine sales online. For
online wine sales, visit www.ancientpeaks.com. You can also find Ancient Peaks
wine at retailers and restaurants, where they are often the house wine.
At our tasting room, you can also
join our A-List Wine Club, which entitles you to a wine discount. The wine
tasting experience is also complimentary to our club members. We ship wines
three times per year, making it more affordable than a monthly wine club. Club
members can also order wines at a special savings. We also host special events
for club members and provide a newsletter detailing our wines and news, as well
as information on the Paso Robles Wine Festival 2009 and other local events.
We are one of the few San Luis
Obispo wineries to offer personal vineyard tours, which take place on the first
and third Saturdays of the month. Our wine guide drives guests through the
vineyard and talks about what goes into making our red wines. Grapes were first
planted on our ranch in the late 1770s, making it a historic landmark in the
wine country of Paso Robles and the wine country of California. When you tour
wine country with us, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable experience.
