Our Sauvigon Blanc comes from one of
the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation. San Juan
Vineyard winds along San Juan Creek in the eastern foothills of the Paso Robles
wine country. San Juan Vineyard was planted in 1972 as one of the first modern
vineyards in the San Luis Obispo wine region. We are one of a just a handful of
producers making California Sauvignon Blanc from vines more than 35 years old.
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the
classic wines of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley in France. California Sauvignon
Blanc was first popularized by Napa Valley’s Robert Mondavi Winery in the late
1960s. Mondavi Sauvignon Blanc, which the winery called Fume Blanc to signify a
dry wine, put Napa Sauvignon Blanc on the map and helped the varietal establish
a strong presence in Napa vineyards and in the larger world of California white
wine. Sauvignon Blanc wines have since become widespread on the Central Coast.
It joins Chardonnay and Viognier as the top white wines of the region. We
consider it the best white wine to grow in Paso Robles.
We invite you to visit our tasting
room in Santa Margarita, where you can taste and buy Sauvignon Blanc and our
other current releases. You can also shop for a wine present, such as a wine
rack or stemware. You can join a wine club, get a map of the wine country and
browse our California wine shop as well. During the Wine Festival in Paso
Robles each May, we offer special wine tasting weekends with food and special
offers. The other big local wine festival is the Zinfandel Festival each March.
Buying wine online is also easy at www.AncientPeaks.com. You may also mail
order wine by calling our tasting room.
Ours is one of the more unique
California wine tasting experiences, in that we offer personal guided tours of
our vineyard and historic ranch on the first and third Saturdays of each month
(we do not offer winery tours, as our winery is at a separate location). During
our tours, you gain a comprehensive insight into the winegrowing process, and
you also get to see the fossilized soils and climate-shifting terrain that
distinguish our vineyard.
