Join us as we restore the pride in our great country by tasting some fine examples from the enlarging wine industry on our home shores of England. In a truly fascinating tasting we will discover practically the emerging wonderful newcomers on the international stage of wine from producers such as Denbies (Surrey), Chapel Down (Kent) and Bookers (Sussex). Indeed the sparkling wines of the UK are achieving high acclaim from worldwide wine critics with many of our fine examples being pitched against Champagne and emerging as strong competitors and sometimes as victors!
Why bother with English (& Welsh) wine?
We all know through many years of hardened experience that the weather is not ideal in the UK, especially for the growth of grapes, which are more suited to the continental climates of mainland Europe. However, with climate change in our favour mixed with the modernisation of the wine industry, there is the fantastic possibility of producing grapes in our warmer areas such as South England. This fact coupled with soils similar to the famed wine regions of Champagne, Loire, Burgundy & Bordeaux in France and the wealth of experience of British traders equates to the birth of a thriving wine region, the UK.
The industry is in its' infancy but is learning and evolving and is already proving that within this great country lies the ability to produce fine wine.
