New “Bolt-Together” Toyota Crawley Customer Lounge – September 2011

The attached pictures illustrate the third variation of the new proto-type Toyota “Bolt-Together” customer lounge area. Space Projects Ltd approach to the redesign of the now ten-year-old concept has been based around customer needs and expectations, improvements in transparent processes as well as the showroom operating efficiencies.

Customer visibility, in both being able to see what’s going on, and in-turn “being” seen ensures nobody ever feels forgotten. Imparting new product information, Toyota past history, safety advice etc via a centrally controlled network digital screen system ensures each centre and customer is treated with equal importance whether they be in central London or the Outer-Hebrides.

Material selection has been based upon durability, practicality and at the end of its life - recyclability. Dirt traps have been eliminated as far as possible via crisp detailing, dirt resistant materials and process segregation. Doors are laminated for ease of cleaning with the lightness of touch continued through into office and admin areas with divides specified in frosted acrylic, laminates in a muted light gray’s all in-turn set against the Quadrant carpet tile “Stripe” laid in a quarter-turn fashion.

The Lounge unit is manufactured, constructed, pre-wired and completely assembled tested and tweaked off site before then being disassembled, transported to site and installed. This approach ensures site builders and contractors never come into contact with finished showroom elements as units are only ever installed “after” practical completion of all site works to ensure non damage.

With all development and customer research works complete, Space Projects Ltd have now been tasked with taking the key visual markers and processes and adapting them into a package suitable for a nationwide network refurbishment programme. Working within the constraints of the existing structures and tight budgets the first test refurbishment site will be Toyota Liverpool in late 2011, with the rollout across the network then due to commence in 2012 and through into 2013.

Appointed lead design consultants / design guardians for Toyota (GB) Plc in 2001 and continuing this role to the present day our role involves all aspects of Toyota’s showroom architectural design, interior design, contractor management and project implementation within the UK from concept design of all new centres and interior brand development to the re-designing and refurbishment of all existing centres.
