With the estimation that 1 in 3 people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime each of us will likely experience or know someone who is or has been affected by cancer.

Currently about 1.8 million people are living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis in the UK. Cancer and its treatment can take its toll on ones health, function and wellbeing causing often unnecessary physical symptoms, which can include:

  • Cancer related fatigue (CFR)
  • General weakness
  • Reduced balance
  • Reduced mobility
  • Loss of muscle strength
  • Breathing disorders
  • Reduced ability to perform every day activities

These long-lasting symptoms may arise during treatment or even years later.

At Six Physio we want to improve the quality of life of people who are living with or beyond cancer or going through cancer treatment.

60% of people living with or beyond cancer have unmet physical or psychological needs but it has been proven that exercise improves quality of life for cancer patients, regardless of the type and stage of their disease. A specialist oncology physiotherapist is a cancer physiotherapist and someone who has the necessary skill set and knowledge to help those with the physical side effects of cancer or cancer treatment. Oncology physiotherapy is proven to alleviate distressing symptoms such as fatigue, which debilitates 75-95 per cent of all cancer patients.

Our specialist oncology physiotherapist can support people during each of the different phases of their cancer journey from diagnosis, through treatment, end of treatment, survivorship and end of life. We help people feel good and get back control by addressing the Physical side effects of cancer and the Side effects of cancer treatment.
