Peacock has ruffled its feathers to reveal a decadent bar. Burlesque and cabaret ensure it doesn't fade into the background.
Peacock Bar is not somewhere you would just happen upon walking around Clapham Junction, although it's easy enough to find if you are looking for it. This cabaret bar, once the home of a traditional English pub, has been gutted and revamped into a trendy burlesque den.
The decor centres around the bar's namesake - the peacock. Expect lots of blue intermingled with coloured lights set to resemble the colour of the elegant bird's vibrant tail. With peacock feathers above the bar, which are meant to represent good fortune, the Feng Shui here is spot on. Check your coat and relax on the big leather bound sofas or wicker back chairs. Before the acts start old classic movies such as Barbarella or Cabaret are projected onto the wall. It would be difficult to get bored at Peacock Bar with all the visual stimulation happening around you.
Make sure you book a table in advance if you want a seat for a show because by 9.30pm at the weekend it will be packed. The crowd is a relaxed bunch wearing everything from jeans and T-shirts to top hats and feather boas. Dress as up or down as you like here and everyone is welcome to take a spin around the stripper pole in the centre of the floor. The staff are inviting and the bartenders are attractive and serve your drink with a .
When there aren't any acts on you can expect a hearty mix of ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s hits. The entertainment is cabaret and burlesque themed, which can vary from night to night with Michael Camperi singing Sinatra ballads or Andy Winehouse impersonating Amy, acting out not only the songs but also the eccentricities of Ms Winehouse.
The at Peacock Bar are made by bartenders who understand mixology and that the presentation of a cocktail is just as important as the flavour. Cocktails are £7 and are 2-4-1 Sunday-Thursday. Happy Hours are every Friday-Saturday, 4pm-7pm. The bartenders go well beyond a shot and a mixer and can make you any variation of a cocktail that you desire; however, their own list of cocktails is pretty good.
The Bramble is highly recommended, served with crushed ice in a whisky glass topped with a raspberry garnish offering a sweet, decadent taste of gin and blackberry. The Moscow Mule is another highlight comprising vodka and ginger beer. The taste is peculiar but it is one of those odd drinks you just can't stop drinking. If you are looking for a classic, the mojitos are as are the martinis, served in chilled glasses with decadent garnishes.
Bar favourite Jagermeister is on offer alongside a large assortment of flavored vodkas. The draught beers are £3.70 a pint and the list includes Becks Vier, Guinness, Kronenbourg, Staropramen, Stella Artois, San Miguel, Boddingtons and Scrumpy Jack. In bottles they also offer Corona, Peroni, Tiger, Budvar and Magners Pear. starts at £14 a bottle or £3.70 for a glass.
The Last Word
Peacock Bar is a great place to visit if you are in the market for an unusual night out with good drinks and a relaxed vibe, but don't want to break the bank.

SQUARE MEAL "Featured New Openings" March 2009
Bringing singers , crooning and burlesque to the burghers of Battersea is part of booker's Lawrence Merrett's grand plan. Commendable indeed, when entertainment is of the calibre of tight-corseted tease Miss Vicky Butterfly. Equally captivating is a range of £7 cocktail classics such as mai tai and Moscow mule. Belgian fruit beers also appear, but is Clapham Junction ready for ‘monastic meads', flavoured genevers and Krug at £140? The look is apparently ‘retro, rococo, baroque and any other style we like'; let's call it a stylistic smörgåsbord. As well as DJs until late, the venue doubles as daytime café, with Wi-Fi to go with your clotted cream tea.

Is my presence unsettling him .... Lawrence Merrett's co-founder of The Peacock's .. laugh a minute Looney Tunes patter is not the least of the night's amusements: kicking off the regular weekend cabaret are a flame haired Vivien Leigh look a like playing peek a-boo from behind Ostrich feathers [See Vicky Butterfly pictures on Gallery Page] and a leggy lovely whose eye popping gyrations around a pole promt [See Alesia Vasmitzel pictures on Gallery Page] a stiff kneed Tiffany to muse "Must stock up on fish oil capsules". Previously owner of Living in Brixton Merrett has taken a clapped - out old boozer filled it with clapped -out old furniture [err that's retro baroque chic Keith mate - see pictures on Gallery page] and cool Claphamites... They'll dig it for its draught Belgian fruit beers and classic cocktails at an unmissable £6 for 2 all night Sunday-Thursday. With live Djs till late & trippy 1960s projections, I dig it for its raggedy-ass insouciant charm much like that maverick Merrett himself. [followed by not entirely flattering but rather witty review of Juju Lee Chapman's new Chelsea gaff .. Its all a bit Frank Lampard!] ... Personally I prefer Larry's function up the Junction.

ESSENTIAL LOCAL 26 February 2009
Following two fabulous launch parties in February [See Fri 20/ Sat 21 Feb pictures on Gallery Page ], the glamorous new Peacock Bar has announced itself in glorious style as the area's first burlesque bar and club. There are live performances of cabaret, burlesque, and classy pole dancing (yes, there is a pole) on Friday and Saturday nights [See Performers pictures on Gallery Page ],, along with DJs spinning the tracks you love from 80's, 90's, and 00s until 2.30am, [See Club pictures on Gallery Page ], and classic art films such as Barbarella dancing across the walls .
Legendary bar impresario Lawrence Merrett and dance entrepreneur, Alison Hudd combined their experience to create a venue that was to be "sophisticated and stylish but still really good fun" "We also really loved Clapham Junction as a location it so easy to get to" explains Lawrence "We found this horrible old pub stripped it out and were amazed to find all the original Victorian features" The resulting bar is an eclectic mix of retro, baroque, rococo and je ne sais quoi. Along with a great wine list and quality beers The Peacock offers 25 different flavours of Belgian fruit beers, an exclusive range of monastic meads and a range of Geneva flavoured gins
The bar will soon be transformed into a café by day, when you will be able to pep up with wi-fi, cakes and the soon to be illegal "honeyspresso". But it the wonderfully theatrical Friday and Saturday nights that will first get both the boys and the girls dancing through the door.
