The 18th Millésime Bio organic-wine trade show, which was organised by the AIVB-LR (Languedoc-Roussillon Organic-Wine Trade Association), was held at the Montpellier Exhibition Centre (in southern France) from 24 to 26 January 2011. The event gathered 560 exhibitors and welcomed 3,200 visitors from around the world, which represented an increase of 18% on the 2010 trade show.

Exhibitors and visitors came to the 18th Millésime Bio organic-wine trade show from France and from 39 countries around the world, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Dubai (in the UAE), Germany, Spain, the United States, and several Nordic nations (in Scandinavia). The trade show attracted importers (18% of participants/visitors), wine retailers (18%), wine wholesalers (10%), as well as hotels, restaurants and catering professionals (7%).

A representative from the Strohmeier vineyard, in Austria, who took part in the trade show, said: “I was pleasantly surprised by Millésime Bio 2011. I have made new international contacts as well as the contacts with our usual customers. I enjoyed the time I spent with fellow winegrowers from other winemaking regions. Everything at Millésime Bio 2011 was well organised. There was sufficient space between the stalls, and all stalls were identical and free of any advertising banners. I expect to be back next year.”

An exhibitor from Emiliana Vineyards, in Chile, agreed: “I found the trade fair to be well organised. It seems to be increasingly attractive and brought in visitors from across the world. I hope the trade fair will keep growing and that it will continue to be a success.”

Wine produced with organic-farming methods meets a growing demand for authentic, quality produce, made using environmentally friendly methods, which do not rely on GMOs or chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers.

Among organic products, wine is currently attracting the most interest among new consumers in the French market, and organic wine is increasingly being exported. The rise in global demand is now having an impact on most wine-consuming countries and includes the full range of distribution channels, such as wine retailers, mass distributors, specialised networks, as well as hotels, restaurants and caterers.

The increase in the number of visitors to this year’s trade show confirms the fact that the market for organic wine is continuing to grow and demonstrates the effectiveness of the synergies that have been set up, within the industry, with the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

The event received financial support from the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council and the European Union, and was held at the same time as the International Business Forum organised by Sud de France Export, which helps companies based in the region to expand internationally.

About Millésime Bio

The Millésime Bio trade show was launched in 1993 by a small number of Languedoc-Roussillon winegrowers who organised it to stimulate interest in, and to encourage a constructive dialogue around organic wine.

The trade show is organised by the Association Interprofessionnelle des Vins Biologiques du Languedoc-Roussillon (AIVB-LR), the trade association for organic-wine producers in Languedoc-Roussillon.

The 18th Millésime Bio organic-wine trade show was held from 24 to 26 January 2011. The 2012 Millésime Bio trade show will take place from 23 to 25 January 2012, also at the Montpellier Exhibition Centre, in Montpellier (in southern France).
