Bindmans has unrivalled expertise in the complex field of housing law. The firm has a strong commitment to social justice, and for over 30 years we have been protecting and extending the housing rights of ordinary people.
We act for individuals who are locked in dispute with their landlords – for example, where they are facing eviction, or repairs haven’t been carried out. We are also known for our group action work. We have acted for hundreds of Hackney and Westminster residents disputing service charges; and for tenants opposing a regeneration scheme in Southwark affecting thousands of local people. We are currently acting for two groups of elderly tenants challenging Camden and Westminster’s decision to forcibly remove them. We are expert at bringing test cases and also advise national and local voluntary agencies and social landlords.
Our expertise ranges from bringing cases in the county courts, up to the House of Lords. We have also taken cases to the European Court in Strasbourg. Whether it is a dispute between one tenant and their negligent landlord on a well-established point of law, or a group action which will lead to widespread changes in the law, we provide a high-quality service.
