The Parker Centre Day Care Service The Parker Centre provides services specifically for people 50+ with dementia. The aim of the centre is to enable people to maintain their independence and continue living in the community with support. The Parker Centre is opened Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm and Saturdays 9am to 3pm. Clients may attend between one and six days a week depending on the needs and circumstances of the individual. We have a dedicated transport service. We aim to suit the individual needs as much as possible. All our employees are fully trained to work with older people, our transport is wheelchair accessible. Any medication needed to be administered by employees who must comply with regulation i.e. a prescription is needed and a copy of the prescription should be kept at the centre. During their stay here clients participate in activities, go on day trips organised by the centre. The Parker Centre runs two groups, the upstairs group has clients with early stages of dementia, While the downstairs group are more mixed ability with dementia. A cooked meal is prepared on the premises and is served at 12.45pm. Clients are welcome to tea and coffee at any time of the day. An evening meal is also provided for the client. Clients are referred to the service through a variety of means, these are as follows: Adult Social Care using the assessment tool make referrals to manager. Older peoples Mental Health Services refers service users to the Manager following an assessment at the Elms(Chase Farm). Community Psychiatric Nurses and Community Mental Health Teams make referrals direct to the manager using the FACE assessment tool. The Alzheimer’s Society also refers Service Users where family carers have contacted the Society for assistance. Age UK Day Centre can be accessed directly by the public. The service was set up to address the needs of people who have dementia. The aim is to support the family carers in their role as carers to a person who has a dementia.
