What is Telephone Befriending? When we’re going through a difficult time in our lives or a period of change, or feel isolated; it can be helpful to talk to someone about how we feel. We provide CRB checked volunteers who care about your present situation and they will be supportive and provide a ‘listening ear’. A regular chat with our volunteers will assist you in building up your confidence and give you the opportunity to open doors to other opportunities that Age UK Enfield and other voluntary and statutory organisations provide. How can I make a referral for Telephone Befriending? The first stage is to make us aware that you are in need of this service; that can be done by a simple phone call to us by either yourself, your relative, friend, GP, Social Worker or any other person that have your best interests in mind. What Happens Next? Our Outreach Services Manager will phone you to find out about your situation, your needs and whether a regular, weekly phone call from one of our volunteers could be helpful to you. How does Telephone Befriending work? One of our Telephone Befriending volunteers will phone you for a chat at the same time each week. It’s really up to you what you talk about, but the volunteer will provide you with companionship and can offer lots of information about Age UK Enfield and other statutory and voluntary services and activities that could benefit you. Who can apply? Anyone who: Is over 50 Is housebound Lives in the Enfield Borough Is able and willing to communicate over the phone. Priority has to be given to those in greatest need, such as: Those who live alone An isolated carer Those who have little or no social contact How much does Telephone Befriending cost? Telephone Befriending is free of charge, although you can always make a donation to Age UK Enfield to support our work.
