Snow-capped Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest and the world's largest freestanding mountain at 5, 895 metres above sea level. It is also one of the biggest volcanoes on the planet and has three major volcanic centres - Shira (4, 160 metres), Kibo (5, 895 metres) in the middle, and Mawenzi (5, 149 metres). The mountain can be climbed any time of the year although the rainy season between mid March to mid June is not advised, nor the period from the start of November to mid December.

Machame is considered the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. You do not need any mountain skills, but you must be fit enough to walk about 80 kms over 6 days. Porters carry all your equipment and supplies and a cook prepares your meals. The Machame route, also known as the whisky route, is better suited to more adventurous hikers who are rewarded with exquisite scenic wonders, from late afternoon sunsets at Shira to the misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco wall. Throughout, accommodation overnight is in tents. An added benefit to this camping route is the acclimatization day – the secret to a successful climb.

Please contact us for details of other routes including the Marangu route which has hutted accommodation and and the less frequented Rongai which is a camping route.
