Julian Cook Counselling & Pyschotherapy work with a range of issues, including Feelings of depression, anxiety, fears and phobias, difficulties in relationships, sexual difficulties, family problems, career and work problems, loss and bereavement, panic attacks, problem drug or alcohol use, uncertainty about identity and life choices, loss of motivation, concerns about own or other's behaviour, bullying and abuse of all kinds, and difficulties stemming from past abuse. As a counsellor I believe that by speaking about difficult things we can gradually make sense of them. This makes them more bearable and can help to turn our struggles into a source of strength and meaning in our lives. Psychodynamic counselling enables us to trace these back to their origin, creating new ways of understanding that can be richer and less painful, opening up new possibilities of who we can become and how we live our lives. We will explore what is bringing you to counselling and think together about how it might help. This session will give you an opportunity to get a taste of how I work and whether you feel this would be for you. I will ask you to describe to me as fully as possible the concern that has brought you. I will listen and may occasionally ask for more details. I will also ask you for a general background picture of the major events and relationships in your life.
