The St Andrew’s Sporting Club has been recognised as the Home of Scottish boxing since its first show on January 29, 1973. That evening Ken Buchanan beat Jim Watt on a fifteen round points decision to win the British lightweight title in what was then the Albany Hotel.  After 34 years, due to redevelopment, the St Andrew’s Sporting Club moved to its new home, the five-star award winning Radisson Blu Hotel in Argyle Street, Glasgow, to ensure that the Club continued to deliver the quality of food, ambience and, of course, the highest standards of boxing that has always been its  hallmark.

Club owner Tommy Gilmour says: I take a personal interest in ensuring our clients and their guests receive the highest possible quality of  service and cuisine and I work closely with Radisson Blu Executive Chef James Reid  to create menus that are more in keeping with a top-quality restaurant than a banqueting facility. We do an event every month and in no 12 month period will we have the same menu. I think this shows our commitment to our clients.”

The most popular way in which businesses and individuals have become involved with the Club is through the membership scheme. Membership opens the door to a number of opportunities, none probably more valuable than the chance to present your Company to an important and influential market. St Andrew’s events – up-market, black-tie affairs – are ideal corporate hospitality and networking occasions, as well as an incomparable night out for the individual.

Membership at the Club is open to gentlemen only, with individual or company memberships available.

Since the foundation of the Club, we have been impressed by many heroes both inside and outside the ring. High-profile guests from the whole spectrum of sports have included Chris Eubank, Sir Henry Cooper, Gavin and Scott Hastings,        Sir Alex Ferguson, Old Firm stars past and present, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Allan Wells, Steve Cram, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, as well as numerous sporting pundits such as Archie Macpherson, Tam Cowan and Chick Young, Jim Delahunt and Dougie Donnelly to name but a few. The recent introduction of top After Dinner Speakers has proved a great hit with members and guests.

In the ring, we have featured many talented young men who have gone on to achieve great things in the boxing world. Since that first show in 1973 – headlined by arguably the greatest fight in the history of Scottish boxing, Buchanan vs. Watt – we have promoted countless Scottish, British, Commonwealth, European and World championships. Everyone who is anyone in Scottish boxing over the past three and a half decades – including Evan Armstrong, Derek Simpson, Rab Affleck, Pat Clinton, Paul Weir, Scott Harrison, Drew Docherty, Joe Kelly and Kevin Anderson – has fought at the Club, as well as the stars of the future.

The St Andrew’s is an Integral part of the Scottish sporting calendar, promoting eight boxing events, including the spectacular Burns Night Extravaganza which brings members and friends from all over the world. We also provide an opportunity for the Ladies to join our members at two very special Dinner Dance Cabarets. Our calendar runs from September – June each year. Each event provides networking opportunities that are second to none.

It’s not all about enjoying yourself at the Club though, we’re committed to helping Charity and we are delighted that with the help of our members and guests we have given around £500, 000 to help local charities.

The Club can count some of the top companies in and, indeed, the amongst its members, which is testament to the quality of event we provide. We have members who have been loyal since 1973 and some who have just joined, and they all say the same thing – there is nothing else quite like the St Andrew’s.

The St Andrew's Sporting Club offers you and your guests an opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the country’s leading sports personalities in convivial surroundings. All of this, together with perhaps the finest matched boxing anywhere, makes the St Andrew's Sporting Club THE Home of Scottish Boxing – traditionally exceptional and exclusively yours to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming you to the St Andrew’s Sporting Club.
