Maternity Nurses are highly- trained and experienced nannies with extensive newborn experience, or nurses and midwifes. Maternity nurses care for new-borns and will expect to work for you for just a couple of months after the mother has given birth. Whether your needs are for help during recuperation, for setting routines in the first few weeks, or for a longer term child care solution - we are here to help. Maternity Nurses specialise in the care of new-borns, they will assist the mother from the time she leaves hospital until both mother and baby are settled into a routine at home. This is normally a period of between 6-8 weeks; however you may wish to book a Maternity Nurse for a shorter or longer period of time, it is totally flexible and will depend on individual needs and circumstances. Maternity Nurses often offer invaluable advice to new parents in how to best care for your new baby. Duties may include (but are not limited to): • Care for your newborn baby • Postnatal care • Assisting the parents in establishing a routine within the home environment • Supervising and tidying the baby's room • Day-to-day laundry for the baby • Setting up sleeping patterns and caring for the baby throughout the night so you can get a good night sleep • Support and encouragement with breast feeding • Teach you safety and hygiene around the baby • Sterilising and making up the bottles for your baby A Maternity Nurse will be on call 24 hours a day for 5 or 6 days a week, living in your family’s home. However this can be flexible depending on an individual family’s needs and the Maternity Nurse you employ. It is possible to have a Maternity Nurse for days or nights only. A Maternity Nurse working on call 24 hours, is entitled to at least 2-3 hours free time during the day to rest or take a walk. They however are on call should you need their assistance. Their time off per week consists of one full day and one full night; during this time the Maternity Nurse can ask to sleep alone or take time off outside the home.
