Rory McIlroy has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year following a season that brought four victories, including the PGA Championship, and saw him top the money list. The 23-year-old Ulsterman, who sealed a money list double on both sides of the Atlantic in 2012, becomes the youngest player to the earn Player of the Year honours since Tiger Woods in 1998. McIlroy, who staved off nominees Woods, Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker and Bubba Watson, recorded a total of ten top-10 finishes in 16 starts and also won the Byron Nelson Award and Vardon Trophy for adjusted scoring average of 68.87 on the PGA Tour. And John Huh, who was the only rookie to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship thanks to winning his maiden title at the Mayakoba Classic earlier in the year, scooped PGA Tour Rookie of the Year after edging contenders Charlie Beljan, Jonas Blixt, Bud Cauley and Ted Potter Jr. “On behalf of the PGA Tour, my congratulation to Rory and John for their outstanding accomplishments this season,” said PGA Tour’s Commissioner Tim Finchem. “These awards are significant to these players as they are bestowed upon them by their peers, one of the highest compliments a player can receive.” McIlroy, who staved off nominees Woods, Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker and Bubba Watson, recorded a total of ten top-10 finishes in 16 starts and also won the Byron Nelson Award and Vardon Trophy for adjusted scoring average of 68.87 on the PGA Tour.
