When you are looking to buy a new fitted kitchen there are now more and more styles and designs to choose from. Traditional wooden, vinyl, painted, high gloss kitchens and now painted matt finished doors are becoming more popular. Some of the main things to look for when looking around at what's on offer are the quality of the kitchen doors and kitchen units. The units or kitchen cabinets need to be made from 18mm thick board with a full height 18mm back in the base units, these will then last for years. If you buy the cheaper units from the big DIY stores they a likely to have thin hardboard back which after a time might start to bow out as it absorbs moisture in it from the atmosphere. Although it might look good when first fitted after a time it could start to weaken the whole unit as it starts to bow out of place. A good indication if this has happened is the doors might start to look out of line as the sides of the unit move out of line. The kitchen doors also need to be of good quality. Make sure you can look at a door that is not fitted on the units so you can feel the weight, if it is good quality it should feel heavy. If it is a gloss kitchen doors it should have a really deep sheen showing it has had many coats of paint or lacquer. Most of the kitchens you can but at the big DIY stores are massed produce with the minimum coating applied to them to keep cost down. The fittings also play a large part in how long the kitchen will last and keep looking its best. I f cheap hinges are used after just a few months the doors will start to drop on one side as they wear, drawer boxes should never have a hardboard bottom they should have at least 15mm bottoms so as not to bow out in time. The best kitchen industry standard you should look for is Blumotion soft close hinges and soft close drawer boxes.
