Leading supplier of air pollution monitoring equipment, Gradko Environmental, is pleased to announce the first products in its new range of Rapid Air Monitors.
Environmental consultants globally have been looking for faster passive methods of measuring ambient air pollution, particularly for inorganic compounds. Gradko have responded to this market need with the introduction of the Rapid Air Monitor. This equipment is currently available for Nitrogen Dioxide and VOCs, with the range being expanded to include Sulphur dioxide and Ammonia in the near future.
For many years Gradko have been involved with the supply and analysis of diffusion tubes – popular for their low cost and ease of use. The new Rapid Air Monitors draw from this extensive expertise to allow shorter sampling periods whilst still offering affordable monitoring. Technical Advisor, Vicky Mugleston, explains the popularity of the new monitors:
‘Passive diffusion tubes are low cost, making them really popular for monitoring over a large area. However their sampling is relatively slow at 2-4 weeks. The new Rapid Air Monitors allow our customers to continue with the easy passive sampling techniques but over much shorter timescales, so results can be obtained much quicker. The new samplers have been received with much anticipation in the industry.’
The Nitrogen dioxide Rapid Air Monitor was launched first as the passive sampling of Nitrogen dioxide is one of the largest areas of interest for air pollution monitoring. With this new monitor, sampling times can be reduced to as little as one hour – allowing sampling to be much more flexible.
‘This is very popular as Nitrogen dioxide can now be measured quickly to identify problem areas. The sampler also gives the flexibility for people to detect Nitrogen dioxide even if the only have limited site access. The versatility of the samplers means it is also becoming popular for detecting the ambient pollution levels in schools across Europe.’
The VOC Rapid Air Monitor is finding its niche as a personal air monitor for workplace exposure monitoring. Due to the faster uptake rate, the Rapid Air Monitor allows a sample to be taken over a period of a few hours without the need for carrying round a bulky pump. This sampler is also ideally suited to monitoring the high levels of VOC pollution around a chemical spill. The variety of analysis options for the monitor ensure that results are obtained as urgently as the situation demands – five working day analysis is standard, with same-day and next-day options available.
‘Many people are exposed to potentially harmful VOC pollution during the working day. This monitor is lightweight so people are able to continue with their work whilst not being bothered by it. Its ease of use allows workers to take control of their own monitoring, without any specialist training.’
The new products in this range, Sulphur dioxide and Ammonia Rapid Air Monitors, are due for release later this year, increasing the variety of sampling techniques in the air quality sector.
