Tri-Synergy win trophy at The National Council for Work Experience Awards

Havant-based marketing and business development specialists, Tri-Synergy Ltd are celebrating after winning a prestigious national work experience competition.

The company triumphed against some big household names in the business world to lift the crown at the 6th annual National Council for Work Experience (NCWE) Awards.

Tri-Synergy had been competing in their category alongside companies which included the Channel 4 Television Corporation, global accounting and consulting firm KPMG LLP, and international leisure group TUI Travel plc. At a gala awards ceremony in Merchant Taylors’ Hall, London, they were presented with the trophy for Best New Placement Scheme 2009, by writer and broadcaster Professor Laurie Taylor.
“At a time when dramatic changes are occurring in the world of work it is more important than ever that undergraduates have a chance to appreciate the way that world functions. Work experience provides that vital opportunity,” he said.

Tri-Synergy’s Managing Director, Tina Webb said: “We are delighted to have won among such illustrious company, and for our unique mentoring placement scheme to be recognised in this way.

“It’s a great achievement to be recognised for a placement scheme we only started 18 months ago. We’ve taken on board our student feedback and hope to continue to grow the scheme to ensure it’s one of the best out there.” 

“We believe in taking on students and positively encouraging them to use their skills, realise their potential and set high goals for themselves against a backdrop of a supportive team behind them. “We also want them to enjoy their placements and to learn both job skills and life skills which will serve them well in the future.”

Heather Collier, director of the NCWE says: “Tri-Synergy clearly demonstrated the placement’s success in terms of student and business objectives. At induction stage, both the student and workplace supervisor look at the student’s final year subjects to ensure any relevant experience and training can be incorporated into the placement. A buddying scheme ensures the student has a solid base from which to acquire new skills. It’s a fantastic example of a placement and one to watch for the future.”

Tri-Synergy’s current work placement student is web developer, 22-year-old Jerry Hughes who is on secondment from the University of Portsmouth.

Jerry (22), who lives in Southsea, has joined Tri-Synergy as part of a 12 months placement programme to complement his BSc Honours degree course in E-Commerce and Internet Systems.

“I felt I was fully integrated within the team from day one and have been involved from the start with client work, varying from building e-newsletters to designing and building new websites,”he said.

“Tri-Synergy have always been interested in helping me out as a student as well as an employee, they have made sure that the work I am doing is something we both can benefit from and there is always someone on hand to help me out with my work.”

The NCWE Awards, developed in 2003, recognise, encourage and reward employers who take the lead in the provision of valuable work placement opportunities for students, and set high standards for others to follow by offering fulfilling work placements that help students develop their employability skills.

Now in their sixth year, the NCWE Awards received the largest number of entrants to date from SME and blue chip organisations as well as across the public, private and charitable sectors.
