Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by its founder Joseph Pilates over the course of a lifetime dedicated to improving physical and mental health. Pilates focuses on building your body’s core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises.
By core strength, we are talking about your back, abdominal and pelvic muscles which form your cylinder of stability. Pilates goes far beyond your core muscles however and not only provides a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn’t even know you had!), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.

At LBhealthcare we teach Modified Pilates aimed at injury prevention and rehabilitation. Our instructors are experienced physiotherapists as well as Pilates Instructors. Following an assessment, your individual goals will be taken into consideration when planning for the classes and every effort is taken to chose or adapt the exercises to suit your needs. Traditional Pilates exercises can be very physically demanding on the average individual because some of the positions place large loads on the back and neck. In contrast Modifed Pilates, developed by the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) are Pilates’ original matwork exercises which have been adapted for the clinical population.
Modified Pilates focuses on retraining the deep abdominal, pelvic floor and back muscles that researchers have found to vital in back stability and rehabilitation.

Pilates can be taught on a one to one basis to specifically cater to your needs. This can be very useful if you have just had a recent injury or require rehabilitation for a specific sport. Classes Our classes run on Saturday mornings and one course lasts ten weeks. There is a maximum number of ten participants.
