acupuncture, physiotherapy, neck pain
Acupuncture is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine dating back as far as 1000BC and offered by physiotherapists at LBhealthcare.
Research shows that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals – endorphins. These help the body to heal itself while offering pain relief. We can use as many as nine types of acupuncture needles, though only six are commonly used today. These needles vary in length, width of shaft and shape of head. There are a few different precise methods by which the needles are inserted. Points can be needled anywhere in the range of 15 degrees to 90 degrees relative to the skin surface depending on the treatment called for. In most cases a sensation felt by the patient is desired.
The following techniques may be used by an Acupuncturist:
Raising and thrusting
Twirling or rotation
Combination of raising/thrusting and rotation
Scraping (vibrations sent through the needle)
Trembling (another vibration technique)
Once again, techniques are carefully chosen based on the ailment – and we promise, it’s not painful!
