Re: New service in Conformal Coating – using Selective Technology
Late in 2008, Gemini won a 3-year contract supplying a customer in the Rail Safety sector, which led to an investment into Conformal Coating Equipment.
When the opportunity arose to quote for the contract our research revealed, the traditional process of coating required extensive masking, unmasking and re-work to achieve optimum results. We calculated that, with this method, production time would be considerable.
Subsequently our investment in a robotic ‘selective’ process was made. This allows us to automatically spray coating materials onto the PCB using a series of fine dispensing heads, with close control and a consistent thickness. This coating technology substantially reduces production times, yet increases repeatability.
To enhance our PCB coating technology process, we have installed an ultrasonic and solvent vapour cleaning system for board preparation, allowing us to meet the cleaning specification of both IPC CH-65A and J-STD 001-D. We are also fully equipped with full UV inspection capability and a full ionic contamination testing capability.
How can this help you?
With such a significant saving in processing time, we are able to offer this service at a considerably lower price than sub-contractors using traditional coating methods - typically savings are in the region of 20% to 30%!
