Peter Garrard is running a series of Pottery and Ceramic workshops this summer from his studio in Longlevens. These are for those with all levels of experience who are interested in trying their hand at pottery or ceramic sculpture. With regular demonstrations and one-to-one teaching throughout the day I will guide you through the different processes. You will have the opportunity to experiment before making a final piece of your own design or you can take inspiration from my examples. The finished work is mat, durable, as colourful as you like and frost proof. Stoneware clays and coloured slips are used throughout.
Make a coil pot: Saturday 27 July: 10am - 5pm
Use a range of different coiling techniques to make your own coil pot.
Make a plaque: Saturday 3 August: 10am - 5pm
You could make a plaque about your family and friends, to commemorate a specific event or perhaps based on characters from a favourite story. You will work with slabs of clay, make stencils and use coloured slips and a range of mark-making equipment.
Bring along any pictures or photos that you would like to work from.
Make a mask or Green Man: Saturday 17 August: 10am - 5pm You can take inspiration from different masks from around the world such as Venetian carnival masks, copy one of my designs or create your own. Masks can be made for indoor or outdoor use.
The workshops are £60 inclusive of a homemade lunch, firing and all materials.
