Choral music has long been central to the worship of Britain’s churches, from the grandest cathedral to the smallest village chapel, marking grand state occasions or reflecting the intimacy of personal prayer and devotion. In this concert, the Stondon Singers perform some of the greatest anthems to spring from that tradition, with a selection of items which will be well known and dearly loved by choristers and congregations alike. The programme includes Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Parry’s I was Glad, Naylor’s Vox Dicentis Clama, and other works by Purcell, Howells, Stanford and Gibbons. With its generous acoustic and wonderful organ, Brentwood Cathedral provides the perfect setting for this celebration of the English anthem, performed by one of the county’s leading choirs.
