One of the wedding ceremonies Katie carried out in the summer has just been featured on Rock My Wedding. Here's the story and a short film of the day!
"It all started for me with a cup of tea and a chat in Julie and James’ cosy London flat. We talked about their ideas, plans and the atmosphere they wanted for their wedding. As I was about to leave they told me they’d already decided they wanted me to be their celebrant, I was thrilled! Maybe the fact that they had to lend me an umbrella for the journey home was a sign of things to come! Over the months we created their ceremony together- words that captured their feelings about their relationship, marriage and their hopes for the future, readings in French, English and German, writing and tweaking personal vows, and a cellist for music. We added a handfasting with different coloured ribbons, including one I made with spare lace from Julie’s wedding dress. To end the ceremony we decided to adapt a German tradition with Julie and James cutting some bunting together to symbolise the start of a new chapter in their life.   On the day Kate Fletcher from Vintagehire and Sam fromViolets and velvet created the most stunning backdrop for the ceremony with flowers, chairs and an old bureau dressed and lit with candles. I tied the handfasting ribbons on the back of a chair which not only looked pretty but was practical too!   After welcoming the guests in English, French and German the ceremony was underway. Having really got to know Julie and James putting feeling and gravitas into the words came naturally. I could tell just how much it meant to them both and there was fun and laughter as well as a great feeling of love and commitment. It really was a magical and memorable occasion. We all received so many comments from guests afterwards about how moving, fun and heartfelt the ceremony was. I felt so honoured to be part of their new life together and so pleased to hear it was their favourite part of the day." Here’s a little film that captures their special day.
