Finding a competitive edge in this recessive market is crucial. The truth is, it's probably more about the small things we do in business rather than large gestures that give us the edge that keep customers coming back. Reports are bleak, so many contractors are looking to cut costs, but not cut standards. Obviously, the best place to start is with suppliers. Checking that rates are competitive, assuring that the product is a good standard and enhances – not detracts from – your image are both wise options.
Lakeside-Hire prides itself on its morning delivery of clean, inspected and well-maintained products, and on its 52%-cheaper prices than the book rate of the national suppliers, and on it’s great selection of podium steps, scaffold tower, ladders and site security products, site boxes temporary fencing and site lighting.

The danger for many DIYers, is that the step-ladder is an all-too-tempting option. In 2005, the Working At Height Regulations made it very clear quite how dangerous it is to work above a metre using a ladder – with several deaths reported from fairly low-level falls. Since then, hiring a scaffold tower is the only sensible option. Not only are they are so easy to use and quick to fit, they also make working at height much more comfortable.
Scaffold towers have colour-coded braces that click in quickly, and the wheels, stabilisers and toe-boards all fit very easily together. For outside jobs, scaffold towers will make most jobs a breeze, and for inside jobs, podium steps are the obvious replacement the wobbly stepladder when you have a big task ahead.
‘The tower was delivered on time, a date was arranged for collection and the deadline was met, excellent.’
