Working in the dedicated University Costume Design studios, you will be taught by one of the world’s leading specialists. You will examine the changes in style and construction, and you will look at how the corset changes the shape of the body, and the affects it has on the outer clothing garments.
Practical demonstrations will take you through the various stages of cutting and making your own bespoke vintage fashion corset.
You will then explore original and modern techniques of drafting a pattern and work with appropriate fabric of your own choice that you will style into a vintage or contemporary fashion corset.
You will learn specialist-making skills throughout the construction process and understand the use of steel and spiral boning techniques to create your very own corset, truthful to fit and vintage or a fashion period look.
You must have competent sewing skills and be able to use a sewing machine.
What you need to bring
Notebook, ruler, pencil, rubber and a sewing kit containing: paper scissors, small pointed embroidery scissors, cutting shears, tape measure, pins, needles, white cotton thread and white tailors chalk. You will need to buy outer fabric and matching thread for the corset but not until the course has started.
